It’s hot.

My office is 85 degrees right now and because of that little factor I’ve become worthless today.

As I was sitting here trying to cool down I came to the realization that I haven’t posted anything here in a long time.  There’s been so much going on lately that it’s been hard to find the time to write. Even a little ‘hello’ seems like a huge undertaking…. oh well.

So I moved into my new house.  Been living there for about a solid month now.  It took about a month before that to clean the whole thing, paint walls, put in new floors, etc.  I can’t believe that it’s mine.  I’m truly blessed and God has done some amazing things in my life!

As far as work goes, things are movin’ right along. All of our fall programming is getting ready to start up in a few weeks.  We have some BIG things planned that include: New sound system in the worship center, cool videos, new production staff members, etc.  It’s going to be great!

…Now for the blog.  I have no idea what to do with this thing.  I know that I want a place to write down my thoughts and random happenings.  I’m getting into photography, but I’m not good enough to put my stuff up here haha.  I’d like to write about tech stuff too…and about life….etc.  Who knows.

House Update

So I haven’t posted here in a while.  Been extremely busy.  It’s funny how life will pick up pace all of a sudden and then when you have time to stop and take a look around you wonder what just happened.

Over the past month or so I’ve been caught up with Easter here at the church.  We had over 10,000 people in attendance on that morning. Usually we have around 4,000.  I spent all last week trying to get the million things knocked off my to-do list with hopes of taking a breath of fresh air.  Turns out that I worked 8 hours on Friday, which is typically my day off.

The only break I had, however, was on Saturday.  Whitney and I went to the Dallas World Aquarium…fantastic place.  It has more than just fish (which was what I was expecting). It was awesome to finally have a day to do nothing and just hang out!

Now I’m sitting in my office trying to take care of some house stuff.   For those of you who don’t know….I just bought a house.  I’m still in the contract stage and I’m trying to figure all of that out.  I’m actually about to head over and check to see if a water leak was fixed…then I’m pricing out carpet.  The house is a HUD home…a foreclosure.  The past owners didn’t take care of it.  The carpet is stained beyond cleaning, there was no water because of the leak, and their kids drew over every wall in the house.  Why do people let that happen?

Anyway, I’m ready to move in.  I want to paint, buy furniture, and finally have a place of my own. It’s been a while since my last apartment and living at home with the parents is getting old.  I can’t wait for this next step… it’s going to be awesome.  Anyway….I’m sure you don’t want to hear me ramble on anymore….here’s a picture of the house…. more to come!

Beet Powder?

2009 April 1
by rossharris

I’m sitting down enjoying lunch this afternoon.  I was eating some onion rings and dipping them in a very tasty sauce.  After I had finished the said onion rings I was curious on why the sauce was so delicious.  I found that one of the first ingredients was Beet Powder.
First off, WHAT is Beet Powder? Second, is it really needed to make the onion ring sauce glorious? Lastly, if I added Beet Powder to other foods what would it taste like? Discuss…

Breathe

It’s amazing how fast life moves.  I mean, seriously… when was the last time you actually sat down to rest and took a minute to just breathe?

Last week I took a road trip with Whitney.  We took off and headed towards Lexington, KY to visit her family and friends. We then drove to Bardstown, KY…Nashville, TN…and Birmingham, AL.  The entire time we were going ALL day.  Waking up early and either driving or sight seeing…you get the picture.

After putting over 2,200 miles on the car we finally made it back to Dallas and all this week I’ve been constantly thinking: “I’m exhausted!” Why is this? Why is it so hard for people to just sit and do nothing? Personally I always have this feeling that I need to be doing stuff.   I need to be going somewhere, doing something, seeing someone. In the end… I’m tired and I get burnt out on life. I have this tendency of getting so wrapped up in whatever I’m doing that I forget to take time and rest….

So how do I fix it? Tomorrow is my day off….and I’m going to focus on that word: “OFF.” I’m shutting everything down and taking a deep breath.  I need to seek out and find what God is trying to tell me.  I need to stop thinking about “me” and see what He has to say.  I know I should do this more often, but it’s so hard.  Here we go…

Spring Break: Day 2

Today was fantastic.  We woke up this morning around 7:30 and got ready to head out.  We were on our way to visit the Natural Bridge in Slade, KY.  The drive up was pretty easy, just about an hour outside of Lexington. When we arrived we were the only one’s there.  The mountains were filled with thick fog and I believe that this caused everyone else to stay at home.  We didn’t mind though…it made the trip that much better as we had the whole place to ourselves!

We hiked about 6 miles total and ended up at the natural bridge.  What an amazing sight! I took some photos of this trip, but they don’t do it justice.

I’m still learning about shooting photography…. let me know what you think!

Spring Break: Day 1

I’m taking a week off with Whitney and we’ve made it to Lexington, Kentucky to hang out with her dad and brother for a few days.

Our trip started off yesterday with a 12 hour and 45 minute drive from Fort Worth. We left town around 1:00 in the afternoon and at 3:45am (with an hour time change) we rolled into the driveway. I never even thought about flying but after that drive I may want to consider it for next time.

Today we ate lunch, went for a run, and now I’m waiting on Whitney. She just washed her hair with hand lotion by accident. So know we’re all waiting for her to fix the “hair crisis” as she calls it before we head off to hang out with the grandparents. Fun times…

So what’s on the to-do list for the week? We’ll just have to wait and see. We’re also going to go stay with Whitney’s mom for a couple of days, and then eventually make our way to Birmingham to see some old friends. Things are off to a great start and I’m so glad I’m able to take a week off and relax.

Note: This was my first blog post typed off of my iPhone. Forgive me of any typos and fragmented sentences!

Installing recording cards for my console and getting rid of the junk!

Going Digital: Part 3 (Crash and Burn)

Well the first Sunday came and went very quickly with the new console in place.  Everything went fine in the end, but it took a while to get there….

7:00am: Soundcheck starts.  I think everything’s going fine as I’m line checking everything.  Once we run through the first whole song all evil breaks loose.  It sounds like complete ‘mud’ and you can’t hear anything clearly. Ooops.

8:20am: First service starts and I miss a few mic cues because of an operator error. I find it difficult to get the vocals to sound clear without sounding harsh.

9:30am: By the grace of God I’m able to put out a decent mix in the house while the bands monitors are lacking.  All the band members were okay with it.

11:00am: Last service starts and I again miss the same cue as the 1st service.  Once again, operator error. AGH!

Overall it’s great to have a digital console up there.  I had an ‘off’ sort of day, but in the end I think that almost everything went well.  I have a TON of tweaking to do with the system before this next weekend.  I’ll have it up and we’ll see…..

In other news, I’m playing around with blog design.  I’m sure you’ll find this page looking different over the next few days. I’m not sure what I’m going to put up here, but I’ll figure it out.

Are there any graphic designers out there that would like to make a custom header graphic for me? 920×180 in a PSD file….please?? Haha.

I’m playing with the idea of redesigning my blog. Not sure what direction I’m going to take, but if you view this page and it looks a little funny don’t worry.. I’ll have it up and running soon enough.

Going Digital: Part 2

Tuesday afternoon I picked up the new sound console and for a quick 30-minute drive, the contents in my truck bed were worth more than the actual vehical itself.  By the end of the day it was already up in its new home and it had to be completely operational by noon on Wednesday. Crazy!

So I was able to get it all together and working, but I still have a couple of things to do before Sunday’s services.  I’ll probably go in on Saturday to get it done.  Anyway, here are some pictures.  I apologize for being blurry.  I was too excited to take a great picture AND I’m still getting use to my new camera…
